The Dogs of TF2

Description

Dog versions of video game characters.
How completely original.

Turns out I was able to finish this before I left for a bit. This was one of the few projects I had been in the middle of before that dreaded comic made me drop everything.

Anywho, this is the result of watching one too many gmod videos for several nights when I should have been studying. The joys of the internet. |'D
I swear, whenever I get over my irrational fear of online MPGs, I will go back to my copy of the Orange Box and play this game like no tomorrow.

The dogs were chosen primarily by the country of origin of the breed (in relation to the characters) and then by the size/build/look of the dog. Classes were taken into consideration too. (ie: Working class, hunting class, etc.)

From left to right:

Pyro: Dalmatian. I'll admit this was a hard one to decide, but the more I thought about Pyro's affiliation with fire, the more I thought about the firehouse mascot: the dalmatian. It wasn't quite complete without the hat.
Engineer: American Bulldog. An intelligent breed, but somewhat of a powerhouse... However his design was chosen moreso for it's short and sturdy appearance, which can actually vary depending on the type. Engi's dog was chosen closer towards the Hybrid-type: not as snub-nosed as the short, Bully-type, and not as lean as the tall, Standard-type, but a cross of somewhere in between.
Spy: Picardy Spaniel. You know, most of the french breeds consist of some sort of poodle or hound dog, and I certainly didn't need the Hush Puppies mascot for Spy. It needed to be something lean. And I found it ironic that the breed was used for hunting 'Snipes'. x'D
Heavy: Central Asian Shepard. Try saying that five times fast. ;) This one was easy. Look up a list of Russian breeds, then pick out the biggest and bulkiest.
Scout: Jack Russell. In the way of origin, you think the Boston Terrier would have been more appropriate, but the Jack Russell bears a way stronger resemblance to the Scout, hands down. Let's face it, this is a dog that is literally bred for speed, is one of the most hyperactive breeds, and can jump 5 times its height. Need I say more? Scout is pretty much the human incarnate of a Jack Russell.
Demoman: Scottish Terrier. This one wasn't hard either. When thinking of a stubborn and slightly scruffy Scottish breed, this was the first one that came to mind.
Sniper: Australian Koolie. Because a Dingo would have been too typical. Koolies are a diligent, patient, and reserved breed, which I thought were fitting personality qualities.
Soldier: Boxer. Again, the appearance was more prominent for this one rather than origin. From the scrunched face and square jaw to the strong build of the dog. And this breed is known to be hot-headed. |D
Medic: Schnauzer. I didn't make sense to go with a German breed that was initially bred to be on the attack, such as a German Shepard, Rottweiler, or Doberman. Instead I went with the Schnauzer, this one being somewhere between standard and giant in size. It's an extremely intelligent breed that can be destructive when bored. I wouldn't put it past the Medic to resort to violence if he had nothing to do. xD

This is pretty neat. I thought Sniper would be an Australian Shepard (because he's from Australia), but it's interesting to see a different breed that fits him better. And OH MY GOD, the tiny little Scottie dog for Demo, I can't! X3
